Answer

(i) The figure has four collinear points A, B, C and D. The line segments that can be named are:

AB,BC,CD,AC,BD and AD\overline{AB}, \overline{BC}, \overline{CD}, \overline{AC}, \overline{BD} \text{ and } \overline{AD}.

∴ Number of line segments = 6.

(ii) In the figure, the line segments are:

AB,BC,CD,DA,AE,EC,AC,BD,BE and DE\overline{AB}, \overline{BC}, \overline{CD}, \overline{DA}, \overline{AE}, \overline{EC}, \overline{AC}, \overline{BD}, \overline{BE} \text{ and } \overline{DE}.

∴ Number of line segments = 10.

(iii) In the figure, the line segments are:

AB,BC,CD,DA,AE,BE,EC and DE\overline{AB}, \overline{BC}, \overline{CD}, \overline{DA}, \overline{AE}, \overline{BE}, \overline{EC} \text{ and } \overline{DE}.

∴ Number of line segments = 8.
