The President can declare emergency in the country under the following circumstances:
- When the security of the country or any part of it is threatened by war or external aggression or armed rebellion, National or General Emergency is declared.
- If there is a breakdown of the Constitutional machinery in a State, the President can declare emergency in that State.
- If there is a threat to the financial stability of the country, the President can declare financial emergency.
