df1 = pd.DataFrame(d, index = ['d', 'b', 'a'])
df2 = pd.DataFrame(d, index = ['d', 'a'], columns = ['two', 'three'])
print(df.loc['a' : 'b', :])
print(df1.loc['b' : 'a', :])
print(df2.loc['d' : 'a', :])

Output

   one  two
