Why was the feeling of 'Nationalism' lacking among the Indians before the arrival of the British?
Answer
India's long history consisted of multiple kingdoms, not a single nation. At times, a large part of the subcontinent was ruled by one empire, but people's loyalty remained with their individual kings or kingdoms. Modern nationalism developed during British rule as a response to British interests conflicting with Indian interests.
