Question 6

In an election, two candidates A and B contested. A got 60% of the votes. The total votes polled were 8000. How many votes did each get?

Total votes polled = 8000.

Votes got by A = 60% of 8000

=60100×8000= \dfrac{60}{100} \times 8000

= 4800

Votes got by B = 8000 − 4800 = 3200.

Hence, A got 4800 votes and B got 3200 votes.

Question 7

A person saves 12% of his salary every month. If his salary is ₹ 2,500, find his expenditure.

Answer

Total salary = ₹ 2,500.

Percentage saved = 12%.

Percentage of expenditure = (100 − 12)% = 88%.

Expenditure = 88% of 2,500

=88100×2,500=220000100=₹ 2,200= \dfrac{88}{100} \times 2,500\\[1em] = \dfrac{220000}{100}\\[1em] = ₹\ 2,200

Hence, his expenditure = ₹ 2,200.

Question 8

Seeta got 75% marks out of a total of 800. How many marks did she lose?

Answer

Total marks = 800.

Percentage of marks got = 75%.

Percentage of marks lost = (100 − 75)% = 25%.

Marks lost = 25% of 800

=25100×800= \dfrac{25}{100} \times 800

= 200

Hence, Seeta lost 200 marks.

Question 9

A shop worth ₹ 25,000 was insured for 95% of its value. How much would the owner get in case of any mishappening?

Answer

Value of the shop = ₹ 25,000.

Amount insured = 95% of 25,000

=95100×25,000=2375000100=₹ 23,750= \dfrac{95}{100} \times 25,000\\[1em] = \dfrac{2375000}{100}\\[1em] = ₹\ 23,750

Hence, the owner would get ₹ 23,750.

A class has 30 boys and 25 girls. What is the percentage of boys in the class?

Number of boys = 30 and number of girls = 25.

Total number of students = 30 + 25 = 55.
