Statement I-II Type Questions

Question 11

Statement 1: If a man can complete a work in n days, then work done by him in 1 day = nth part of the work.

Statement 2: If work done by a woman in 1 day is n, then time taken by her to complete the entire work = n days.

Which of the following options is correct?

  1. Both the statements are true.

  2. Both the statements are false.

  3. Statement 1 is true, and statement 2 is false.

  4. Statement 1 is false, and statement 2 is true.

Answer

If a man completes a work in n days, then his one day's work = 1n\dfrac{1}{n}, i.e. the nth part of the work. So, Statement 1 is true.

The number of days and the one day's work are reciprocals of each other. If a woman's one day's work is n, then the time taken to complete the whole work = 1n\dfrac{1}{n} days, not n days. So, Statement 2 is false.

Hence, option 3 is the correct option.
