36 men can do a piece of work in 7 days. How many men will do the same work in 42 days?

Let x men do the same work in 42 days.

Since it is a case of inverse variation.

$\therefore 36 \times 7 = x \times 42\\[1em] \Rightarrow 252 = 42x\\[1em] \Rightarrow x = \dfrac{252}{42}\\[1em] \Rightarrow x = 6$

Hence, 6 men will do the same work in 42 days.
