Let intercept be a on x-axis and b on y-axis. a + b = 5 a = 5 - b .........(1) Intercept form of equation : Substituting values we get : Substituting value of a from equation (1) in above equation : Substituting values of b in equation (1), we get : When b = 2, a = 5 - b = 5 - 2 = 3 When b = 10, a = 5 - b = 5 - 10 = -5. Since, both intercepts are positive, So, a -5. ∴ a = 3 and b = 2 Substituting value of a and b in , we get : Hence, required equation is 2x + 3y = 6.
