Add each pair of rational numbers, given below, and show that their addition (sum) is also a rational number:
$\dfrac{6}{11}$ and $\dfrac{-9}{11}$

$\dfrac{6}{11} + \dfrac{-9}{11} \\[1em] =\dfrac{6+(-9)}{11} \\[1em] =\dfrac{-3}{11}$

As $\dfrac{-3}{11}$ is in the form of $\dfrac{p}{q}$ where p and q both are integers and q ≠ 0,

∴ $\dfrac{-3}{11}$ is a rational number.
