We know that,

⇒ Area of rectangle = Base × Height

⇒ 36 = Base × 4.5

⇒ Base = 364.5\dfrac{36}{4.5} = 8 cm.

Steps of construction :

  1. Let adjacent sides AB = 4.5 cm and BC = 8 cm.

  2. Draw a line segment BC = 8 cm.

  3. Draw BX ⊥ BC and CY ⊥ BC.

  4. With B as center and radius equal to 4.5 cm draw arc cutting BX at A.

  5. With C as center and radius equal to 4.5 cm draw arc cutting CY at D.

  6. Join AD.
