Alkalis are bases that are soluble in water. All alkalis are bases but all bases are not alkalis.
For example: Ferric hydroxide [Fe (OH) 3 ] and Cupric hydroxide [Cu (OH) 2] are bases, but not alkalis because they are insoluble in water. Hence reason (R) is also true but it does not support the assertion (A).
