Fe + 2HCl (dil.) ⟶ FeCl2 + H2

Hydrogen sulphide (H2S) gas is evolved when dil. hydrochloric acid is added to compound formed by iron and sulphur.

FeS + 2HCl ⟶ FeCl2 + H2S
