Chemistry
The element 'X' has same number of protons, neutrons & electrons, with same number of electrons in 'K' shell & 'N' shell. The element -
- Is a non-metal with valency -2.
- Attains stable octet structure of the nearest inert gas 'Ar', by gain of two electrons in its valence shell.
- Is a metal with valency +2.
- X2+ has electronic configuration 2, 8.

Answer
Is a metal with valency +2.
Reason — The element X has same number of protons, neutrons, and electrons.
K shell can contain only 2 electrons, so N shell also has 2 electrons. So, the electronic configuration is 2, 8, 8, 2
Total electrons = atomic number = 20
Since, there are 2 electrons in the outermost shell. The element can lose 2 electrons to attain stability. After losing 2 electrons, it will gain the valency of +2.
Thus, we can say it's a metal with valency +2.
