Substituting (3x - 2y) = a, we get :
= 12a2 - a - 1
= 12a2 - 4a + 3a - 1
= 4a(3a - 1) + 1(3a - 1)
= (4a + 1)(3a - 1)
= [4(3x - 2y) + 1][3(3x - 2y) - 1]
= (12x - 8y + 1)(9x - 6y - 1).
Hence, 12(3x - 2y)2 - 3x + 2y - 1 = (12x - 8y + 1)(9x - 6y - 1).
