Rearrange the above terms we get,
x3 - x2 - xy + y + x - 1
= x2(x - 1) - y(x - 1) + 1(x - 1)
= (x - 1)(x2 - y + 1).
Hence, x3 - x2 - xy + x + y - 1 = (x - 1)(x2 - y + 1).
