Given [3x+yy2yx3]=[1253]\begin{bmatrix}[r] 3x + y & -y \ 2y - x & 3 \end{bmatrix} = \begin{bmatrix}[r] 1 & 2 \ -5 & 3 \end{bmatrix}

By definition of equality of matrices, we get

-y = 2 or y = -2 and
3x + y = 1

Putting value of y = -2 in above equation

⇒ 3x - 2 = 1
⇒ 3x = 3
⇒ x = 1

Hence, the value of x = 1.
