Answer

(i) 5x2 – 3x + 7 if x = 1

Substituting x = 1 in the polynomial:

= 5(1)2 – 3(1) + 7

= 5(1) – 3 + 7

= 5 – 3 + 7

= 9

∴ Value of the polynomial when x = 1 is 9.

(ii) 4t3 – t2 + 6 if t = a

Substituting t = a in the polynomial:

= 4(a)3 – (a)2 + 6

= 4a3 – a2 + 6

∴ Value of the polynomial when t = a is 4a3 – a2 + 6.
