If 2x + 1 is a factor of 2x2 + ax - 3, find the value of a.

2x + 1 = 0 ⇒ x =
Since, 2x + 1 is a factor of 2x2 + ax - 3
∴ On substituting x = in 2x2 + ax - 3 remainder = 0.
Hence, a = -5.
