If (k - 3), (2k + 1) and (4k + 3) are three consecutive terms of an A.P., find the value of k.

Answer
Since, (k - 3), (2k + 1) and (4k + 3) are in A.P.
Hence, difference between consecutive terms are equal.
∴ 2k + 1 - (k - 3) = 4k + 3 - (2k + 1)
⇒ 2k + 1 - k + 3 = 4k + 3 - 2k - 1
⇒ k + 4 = 2k + 2
⇒ 4 - 2 = 2k - k
⇒ k = 2.
Hence, the value of k = 2.
