Answer
Hitler’s ambition, as shown in the cartoon, was to make Germany a powerful nation and expand its control over other territories. To fulfil this ambition, he undertook the following steps:
- He established a totalitarian state in Germany. He removed all opposition, concentrated power in his own hands and made the Nazi Party the only legal party.
- He introduced economic reforms and rearmament. Hitler started the Four-Year Plan, increased military production, made military training compulsory and rebuilt Germany’s army, navy and air force.
- He rejected the Treaty of Versailles. He refused to accept its restrictions, stopped paying war indemnity and reoccupied the Rhineland in 1936, which had been declared a demilitarised zone.
- He followed an aggressive policy of expansion. Hitler wanted to bring all German-speaking people under one German state. He annexed Austria in 1938 and also took control of Sudetenland from Czechoslovakia.
