Answer

Hitler’s ambition, as shown in the cartoon, was to make Germany a powerful nation and expand its control over other territories. To fulfil this ambition, he undertook the following steps:

  1. He established a totalitarian state in Germany. He removed all opposition, concentrated power in his own hands and made the Nazi Party the only legal party.
  2. He introduced economic reforms and rearmament. Hitler started the Four-Year Plan, increased military production, made military training compulsory and rebuilt Germany’s army, navy and air force.
  3. He rejected the Treaty of Versailles. He refused to accept its restrictions, stopped paying war indemnity and reoccupied the Rhineland in 1936, which had been declared a demilitarised zone.
  4. He followed an aggressive policy of expansion. Hitler wanted to bring all German-speaking people under one German state. He annexed Austria in 1938 and also took control of Sudetenland from Czechoslovakia.
