Mid-term elections are the elections which are held before the completion of the term of five years when the legislature is dissolved due to one reason or the other. Such elections are held when the Central government or the State government fails to prove its majority in the legislature and elections are held for the formation of new government. The newly formed legislature will have a full five-year term.
