Answer
(a) A white precipitate is formed due to the formation of insoluble silver chloride.
(b) This reaction is known as a double displacement reaction because the ions of the two reactants exchange partners. Sodium chloride and silver nitrate exchange ions to form silver chloride and sodium nitrate.
(c) The chloride ion (Cl-) is tested using silver nitrate solution. It gives a white precipitate of silver chloride (AgCl) when chloride ions are present.
