Name the elements which form water. State three characteristics of water to justify that it is a compound.

Hydrogen and Oxygen combine to form water.
Three characteristics of water are :

1. Water consist of two elements, hydrogen and oxygen.
2. In the formation of water, hydrogen and oxygen always combine in a fixed proportion i.e., two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom.
3. The properties of water are entirely different from those of its constituent elements. Hydrogen and oxygen are gases but water is a liquid under normal conditions.
