The electronic configuration of:

Potassium (19) = 2, 8, 8, 1

Chlorine (17) = 2, 8, 7

The reaction is :

2K + Cl2 ⟶ 2K+ + 2Cl- or 2KCl

(i) Oxidation : 2K ⟶ 2K+ + 2e-
    Potassium undergoes oxidation as it loses electron.

(ii) Reduction : Cl2 + 2e- ⟶ 2Cl-
     Chlorine undergoes reduction as it gains electrons.

(iii) Chlorine acts as an oxidising agent and gets reduced.

(iv) Potassium acts as a reducing agent and gets oxidised.
