While preparing a school project on the temperature record of different areas in the world Rita observed that the winter temperature in Canada ranges from -15°C to -50°C. Whereas in United Kingdom it ranges from 0°C to 7°C at the same time although both are within same latitudinal extension. What according to you is the reason for such difference?

Answer

Although Canada and the United Kingdom lie in the same latitudinal zone, their winter temperatures differ greatly due to the influence of ocean currents. Canada is affected by the cold Labrador Current, which brings chilly air and lowers temperatures. In contrast, the United Kingdom is warmed by the North Atlantic Drift, a warm ocean current that helps keep its winters relatively mild.
