Two impacts of the annexation of Awadh are:
- Unemployment and loss of estates — Thousands of nobles, officials and soldiers lost their jobs, while many taluqdars and zamindars lost their estates.
- Resentment among the sepoys — Many Bengal Army sepoys came from Awadh. Its annexation and the higher taxes imposed on their family lands created strong resentment against British rule.
