We have:

5(z + 4) = 35

⇒ z + 4 = 7 \quad[Dividing both sides by 5]

⇒ z = 7 - 4 \quad[Transposing +4 to RHS]

∴ z = 3

Check:

LHS = 5(z + 4)

= 5(3 + 4)

= 5 × 7

= 35

RHS = 35

Hence, LHS = RHS.
