Given,

⇒ log (x - 2) + log (x + 2) = log 5

⇒ log (x - 2)(x + 2) = log 5

⇒ log (x² + 2x - 2x - 4) = log 5

⇒ log (x² - 4) = log 5

⇒ x² - 4 = 5

⇒ x² = 5 + 4

⇒ x² = 9

⇒ x = $\sqrt{9} = \pm 3$.

Since, x cannot be negative as that will make (x - 2) and (x + 2) negative.

Hence, x = 3.
