3(x + 1) = 12 + 4(x - 1)
⇒ 3x + 3 = 12 + 4x - 4
⇒ 3x + 3 = 8 + 4x
⇒ 3x - 4x = 8 - 3
⇒ - x = 5
⇒ x = -5
Hence, the value of x is - 5.
