Answer

Let the three consecutive even numbers be x, x + 2, and x + 4.

The sum of three consecutive even numbers is 48:

∴ x + (x + 2) + (x + 4) = 48

⇒ 3x + 6 = 48

⇒ 3x = 48 - 6 \quad [Transposing +6 to RHS]

⇒ 3x = 42

⇒ x = 423\dfrac{42}{3}

⇒ x = 14

The numbers are 14, 14 + 2 = 16, and 14 + 4 = 18.

Hence, the required numbers are 14, 16 and 18.
