It is given that the difference between the numbers is 36. So, the other number is x−36.
According to the question, the quotient when one number is divided by the other is 4.
By cross multiplying, we get :
⇒ x = 4(x - 36)
⇒ x = 4x - 144
⇒ 4x - x = 144
⇒ 3x = 144
⇒ x =
⇒ x = 48
Other number be (x - 36)
= (48 - 36)
= 12
Hence, the two numbers are 48 and 12.
