Let two whole numbers be x and y, where x > y.
Given,
Sum of numbers = 15
⇒ x + y = 15 ………(1)
Difference of numbers = 9
⇒ x - y = 9 ………(2)
Adding equation (1) and (2), we get :
⇒ (x + y) + (x - y) = 15 + 9
⇒ x + x + y - y = 24
⇒ 2x = 24
⇒ x = = 12.
Substituting value of x in equation (1), we get :
⇒ 12 + y = 15
⇒ y = 15 - 12 = 3.
Hence, Option 1 is the correct option.
