Answer

Let two whole numbers be x and y, where x > y.

Given,

Sum of numbers = 15

⇒ x + y = 15 ………(1)

Difference of numbers = 9

⇒ x - y = 9 ………(2)

Adding equation (1) and (2), we get :

⇒ (x + y) + (x - y) = 15 + 9

⇒ x + x + y - y = 24

⇒ 2x = 24

⇒ x = 242\dfrac{24}{2} = 12.

Substituting value of x in equation (1), we get :

⇒ 12 + y = 15

⇒ y = 15 - 12 = 3.

Hence, Option 1 is the correct option.
