Answer

S.I. unit of area is m2

(i) 1 square yard = 1 yard × 1 yard = 0.9144 m × 0.9144 m = 0.836 m2

(ii) 1 hectare = 100 m × 100 m = 10000 m2 = 104 m2

(iii) 1 km2 = 1 km × 1 km = 1000 m × 1000 m = 106 m2

(iv) 1 cm2 = 1 cm × 1 cm = (1100 m)×(1100 m)=110000 m2=104 m2\left (\dfrac{1}{100}\ \text m\right)\times \left ({\dfrac{1}{100}\ \text m}\right)= \dfrac{1}{10000}\ \text m^2 = 10^{-4}\ \text m^2

(v) 1 mm2 = 1 mm × 1 mm = (11000 m)×(11000 m)=11000000 m2=106 m2\left (\dfrac{1}{1000}\ \text m\right)\times \left ({\dfrac{1}{1000}\ \text m}\right)= \dfrac{1}{1000000}\ \text m^2 = 10^{-6}\ \text m^2
