We have

(-6) + [(-8) + 12] = [(-6) + (-8)] + 12

LHS = (−6) + [−8 + 12]
= (−6) + 4
= −2

RHS = [(−6) + (−8)] + 12
= (−14) + 12
= −2

Since LHS = RHS,
∴ (-6) + [(-8) + 12] = [(-6) + (-8)] + 12
