Limitations of J.J. Thomson's model of the atom were:
- It failed to explain how the positive charge holds on the electrons inside the atom. It also failed to explain the stability of an atom.
- The concept of the nucleus was not present in his model.
- It failed to explain the results of Rutherford's ∝–particle scattering experiment.
