Using the formula

[∵ (x2 - y2) = (x + y)(x - y)]

= (a2 - 16b2) - (2a + 8b)

= (a - 4b)(a + 4b) - 2(a + 4b)

= (a + 4b)((a - 4b) - 2)

= (a + 4b)(a - 4b - 2)

Hence,a2 - 16b2 - 2a - 8b = (a + 4b)(a - 4b - 2)
