⇒ 81.9^x - 9^x = 720

⇒ 9^x(81 - 1) = 720

⇒ 9^x.80 = 720

⇒ 9^x = $\dfrac{720}{80}$

⇒ 9^x = 9

⇒ x = 1.

Hence, x = 1.
