Answer

(x - 1)(x + 6) - (x - 2)(x - 3) = 3

⇒ x(x + 6) - 1(x + 6) - x(x - 3) + 2(x - 3) = 3

⇒ x2 + 6x - 1x - 6 - x2 + 3x + 2x - 6 = 3

⇒ x2 - x2 + 6x - 1x + 3x + 2x - 6 - 6 = 3

⇒ 10x - 12 = 3

⇒ 10x = 3 + 12

⇒ 10x = 15

⇒ x = 1510\dfrac{15}{10}

⇒ x = 32\dfrac{3}{2}

⇒ x = 1121\dfrac{1}{2}

Hence, the value of x is 1121\dfrac{1}{2}.
