Answer

Given:

The diagonal of the rectangle is 34 cm.

The breadth of the rectangle is 16 cm.

Let the length of the rectangle be l cm.

The diagonal of a rectangle is 34 cm. If its breadth is 16 cm, find its : Area of a Trapezium and a Polygon, Concise Mathematics Solutions ICSE Class 8.

By using Pythagoras theorem,

⇒ Diagonal2 = Length2 + Breadth2

⇒ (34)2 = l2 + (16)2

⇒ 1,156 = l2 + 256

⇒ l2 = 1,156 - 256

⇒ l2 = 900

⇒ l = 900\sqrt{900}

⇒ l = 30 cm

Hence, the length of the rectangle is 30 cm.

(ii) As we know, the area of the rectangle = length x breadth

= 30 x 16 cm2

= 480 cm2

Hence, the area of the rectangle is 480 cm2.
