Given:
The diagonal of the rectangle is 34 cm.
The breadth of the rectangle is 16 cm.
Let the length of the rectangle be l cm.

By using Pythagoras theorem,
⇒ Diagonal2 = Length2 + Breadth2
⇒ (34)2 = l2 + (16)2
⇒ 1,156 = l2 + 256
⇒ l2 = 1,156 - 256
⇒ l2 = 900
⇒ l =
⇒ l = 30 cm
Hence, the length of the rectangle is 30 cm.
(ii) As we know, the area of the rectangle = length x breadth
= 30 x 16 cm2
= 480 cm2
Hence, the area of the rectangle is 480 cm2.
