To eliminate the Pope's influence and seize the wealth of the Catholic Church, King Henry VIII dissolved England's monasteries. Through Acts passed in 1536 and 1539, he closed both small and large monastic institutions which were the wealthiest in the country and confiscated their buildings, land, and money for the crown.
