Answer

a2 - b2 - 2b - 1

Using the formula

[∵ (x + y)2 = x2 + y2 + 2xy]

= a2 - (b2 + 2b + 1)

= a2 - (b + 1)2

Using the formula

[∵ (x2 - y2) = (x + y)(x - y)]

= (a + (b + 1))(a - (b + 1))

= (a + b + 1)(a - b - 1)

Hence,a2 - b2 - 2b - 1 = (a + b + 1)(a - b - 1)
