Noble gases are almost inert to chemical reactions because they have a stable electronic configuration. Their outermost shell is completely filled — helium has a duplet and other noble gases have an octet.
Due to this complete valence shell, noble gases have no tendency to gain, lose or share electrons. Hence, they are extremely unreactive or almost inert to chemical reactions.
