(a) The person is Swami Dayanand Saraswati. He founded the Arya Samaj.

Two beliefs of Arya Samaj regarding opposition of social evils:

  1. It disregarded the caste system and its membership was open to all.
  2. It condemned child marraige and other maladies which were prevalent in India.

(b) Contribution of Swami Dayanand Saraswati to the spread of Education in India:

  1. Swami Dayanand Saraswati emphasised the importance of education for all, including women.
  2. The Arya Samaj established a network of DAV (Dayanand Anglo Vedic) schools and colleges across India, which provided modern education combined with Indian values and traditions.
  3. He promoted education in Sanskrit and the Vedas.

(c) One basic difference of approach between Raja Rammohan Roy and Swami Dayanand Saraswati was that Raja Rammohan Roy supported modern Western education, whereas Swami Dayanand believed in the infallibility and supreme authority of the Vedas.
