(i) The State Legislature is competent to make laws on:
- Matters in the State List;
- Matters in the Concurrent List.
(ii) Three financial powers of the Legislative Assembly are:
- The Budget: The State Legislature passes the State Budget, which contains the estimates of receipts and expenditure of the State Government.
- Permission for Taxes: No tax can be imposed or money expended by the State Government without the approval of the State Legislature.
- Fixing of Salaries: Members of the Legislative Assemblies and the Legislative Councils receive such salaries and allowances as may be determined by the State Legislature from time to time.
