Steps of construction:
Draw a line segment AC = 9 cm.
Draw perpendicular bisector to AC which cuts AC at O.
From this perpendicular, cut OB and OD such that, OB = OD = BD = x 9 = 4.5 cm.
Join AB, BC, CD and DA.

Hence, ABCD is the required square.
