(i) Carbon monoxide is used in the extraction of metals from their ores — Reduces heated metallic oxides e.g. iron [III] oxide to iron.
Fe2O3 + 3CO ⟶ 2Fe + 3CO2
(ii) Two volumes of H2 reacts with one volume of carbon monoxide to form methyl alcohol.
CO + 2H2 ⟶ CH3OH [methyl alcohol]
