The factors which influence the ionization potential of an element are —
Atomic size — As atomic size increases, the nuclear attraction on the outer electrons decreases and outer electron is loosely held. Hence, ionization potential decreases.
Nuclear charge — As nuclear charge increases, the nuclear attraction on the outer most electron increases and the outer electron is more firmly held. Therefore, ionization potential increases.
