Liquid carbon dioxide on sudden evaporation results in freezing and formation of solid carbon dioxide which is called 'dry ice'.
It is used as a refrigerant for preservation of foods.
Three reasons for using carbon dioxide in fire extinguishers:
- It is non-combustible.
- It is non-supporter of combustion.
- It is heavier than air, hence cuts out the fire.
