Answer

Preparation of lead sulphate from lead chloride:

  1. Dissolve lead chloride (PbCl2) in hot water as the salt is only sparingly soluble in cold water but dissolves better when heated.
  2. While the solution is still hot, slowly add a dilute solution of sulphuric acid with constant stirring.
    PbCl2+H2SO4[aq]PbSO4+2HCl\text{PbCl}2 + \text{H}2\text{SO}4 [\text{aq}] \longrightarrow\text{PbSO}4 \downarrow + 2\text{HCl}
  3. Allow the mixture to cool, then filter to collect the precipitate.
  4. Wash the precipitate with distilled water and finally dry it.
