Show that x - 2 is a factor of 5x2 + 15x - 50.

x - 2 = 0 ⇒ x = 2
∴ When given polynomial 5x2 + 15x - 50 is divided by x - 2, the remainder
= 5(2)2 + 15(2) - 50
= 5(4) + 30 - 50
= 20 + 30 - 50
= 0.
Hence, by factor theorem x - 2 is a factor of 5x2 + 15x - 50.
